Clare is a classical soprano, wedding singer and teacher based in Ulverston, Cumbria. Continuing to study with Lorna Anderson, Clare works throughout the United Kingdom as a recitalist, and soloist. Having held several positions in music education, and known for her encouraging nature, Clare is in demand as a teacher and vocal leader.

Originally from Cumbria, Clare undertook her postgraduate vocal studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In this time, she participated in masterclasses with internationally renowned singers and repetiteurs such as Louise Alder and Joseph Middleton. Previously to this, an enjoyable year was spent at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln Germany, as part of her BMus course at the University of Leeds.

Current work includes recitals, oratorio engagements, Lake District weddings and operatic favourites with ‘The Champagne Quartet.’ Previous operatic roles have included: Despina, Pamina, Geraldine (A Hand of Bridge), Helena (Britten) and many more. Having performed newly commissioned operas for children, favourite roles have been as a sloth and whale!

Particularly enjoying devising recital programmes, Clare predominantly enjoys bringing lesser-known works to the forefront. This can either be composers that have been underrepresented (Barbara Strozzi) (Amy Beach), through to realising works by living composers, such as friend and collaborator Ella Jarman-Pinto.

Haydn’s Creation, Viivaldi Glora, Fauré Requiem, Messiah, Elijah are some of the oratorio solos recently undertaken. From a young age, Clare has always been a keen choral singer and has been a member of the BBC National Chorus of Wales, Clothworker’s Consort of Leeds, Welsh Chamber Choir and many more. The joy of singing in a choir remains integral to Clare’s teaching.

Essential to her identity as an artist is her educational work. Clare has worked as a community artist for several companies (Brewery Arts Centre, Opera North, Promise Opera Group) bringing music to a variety of different backgrounds. She has worked with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and improved links between several music organisations.

When she is not singing, Clare can be found exploring her beautiful home of the Lake District with husband and their border collie Ben. See Instagram for more collie content.
